"It Won't Match My Space" - How to Find Prints That Compliment Any Interior

We’ve all been there. You see a stunning piece of art, but the little voice in your head whispers: What if it doesn’t match my room?

I hear this all the time. And It’s one of the easiest “problems” to solve.

Let me show you how.

1. Start with Your Space

Take a good look at your room. What's the vibe? It is sleek and modern? Coastal and light? Or is it full of warm and earthy tones?

Your space already has its own personality. The key is finding a print that speaks the same language.

Whether you're giving a room a face-lift or completely overhauling it with a renovation, I suggest putting a 'mood board' together so you at least know what you're aiming for.

For minimalist spaces, think clean lines and simple compositions.

For spaces lacking texture, think coastal & floral themes and bring the outdoors indoors.

Aim for a harmonious balance within the space and don't overcrowd it.

2. Colour Is Your Best Friend

Here’s a secret: you don’t need an exact match. You need balance.

Colour creates connection. It ties the whole room together.

Pull out a few key colours from your room. Your sofa, cushions, rug—whatever stands out. Now look for a print that compliments these tones.

For spaces lacking colour, think vibrant and colourful prints. Sunrise and sunset prints work perfect for this.

For light coloured rooms such as plain cream walls, light blues and greens work well to balance out the space without overpowering it. Avoid the heavy contrast and blocky prints. Instead, aim for something bright and light.

3. Consider the Size

Let’s talk size.

A small print on a big wall can feel... lost. It doesn't make sense to have a large print on a small wall and would draw attention for all the wrong reasons.

A large print on a small wall? Just the same, overwhelming.

As a rule of thumb, for a standard sofa wall, go big. A statement piece commands attention and makes the room feel intentional.

For smaller spaces, like hallways or nooks, smaller prints work wonders. They add personality without feeling too bold.

4. Mix and Match - If you dare!

Myth: You should only hang prints that match one another.

Wrong.

Mixing up your styles can look amazing. Over time we collect a lot of furniture that may not match. Somehow though, we make it feel homely.

We often have a particular look in mind when styling a room. Mixing and matching can bring a room together and make it feel homely rather than overly curated and perfect.

Each piece adds a layer of depth and character to your space.

5. Trust Your Gut

At the end of the day, this is your space. Your home, your sanctuary.

If you love a piece, it will work. A great print draws the eye, sparks conversation, and gives your home personality.

So don’t overthink it. Trust your instincts, and choose what speaks to you.

Conclusion

Finding the right print is a journey of discovery. Keep it simple. Keep it fun.

When you get it right, you'll know straight away.
